Old Memories

From Humble Beginnings to Great Achievements Company Milestones

Rooted in vision and driven by dedication, our history is a story of growth and achievement. Each chapter strengthens the foundation for our future.

The Beginning - (1987–1990)

A Dream Born Out of Simplicity

  • Padmavati and Dwarakanath were married in 1987, with one shared dream – to build something of their own.
  • Dwarakanath came from Chikmagalur, a family of coffee growers and general merchants, where he learned the values of trade and hard work.
  • Padmavati grew up in a humble home where her father was a teacher, who instilled in her the importance of knowledge, honesty, and perseverance.
  • Together, they saw a growing need in society – affordable, healthy, and easy-to-cook food for families, especially for those moving to cities in search of work and opportunities.
  • What began as a dream soon became a journey to serve people with food made with love, care, and trust.

The First Attempt & Failure

The First Fall

After their wedding, the young couple made the toughest decision of their lives — they sold the only gold they had, their wedding ornaments, to begin a dream. With no other possessions left, they shifted into a tiny rented house that cost just ₹70 a month. Somehow, they gathered ₹3,000 — their only capital — and with that, they started making chutney powders, puliogare mix, and pickles.

But dreams are never easy. Within just a year, the small business collapsed, and everything seemed lost. Yet, even in that darkest moment, their courage did not break. They believed that failure was not the end, but the first step toward something greater. And from that faith, the true journey of IHP Iyengars began…

The Ray of Hope (1990 Restart)

The Hand That Helped

With nothing left, Padmavati and Dwarakanath found themselves completely alone — even friends and family had turned away in their time of need. Just when despair threatened to overwhelm them, a lifeline appeared. Their landlord, Mr. Ramaiah, saw the fire in their eyes and the strength of their dream. he mortgaged his gold ring to provide ₹5,000 as a deposit, so they could get a government loan and try again.

With courage renewed, Dwarakanath trained at CFTRI and began making just 3 kgs of puliogare at a time. But the path was merciless. Shops refused to stock their products, and in moments that broke their hearts, packets of their carefully prepared masalas were thrown onto the streets, discarded as if their dreams meant nothing.

Yet, they refused to give in. Tirelessly, Dwarakanath went from street to street, house to house, offering free samples and convincing people to give their food a chance. Every rejection weighed heavily, but every small smile and acceptance became a seed of hope. Slowly, their courage and hard work began to show results, and their dream started to live again.

Years of Struggle (1990–2000)

Fighting Against All Odds

The next few years were some of the toughest in their lives. For three to four long years, Padmavati and Dwarakanath worked tirelessly, yet the business still ran at a loss. But they refused to give up. They decided to focus on a single product — Puliogare Masala — and slowly, people began to notice its unique taste and quality. To keep the work going, they rented two small houses in Hebbal and hired four to five local women from the neighborhood to help with production. Unable to afford skilled labor, they created opportunities for these women, giving them work, a steady income, and a sense of independence. Every process was entirely manual, with no machines — just hard work, determination, and teamwork.

Padmavati herself worked tirelessly alongside the team, personally roasting chillies day after day. The heat and the strain eventually took a toll on her health, and she fell seriously ill, undergoing surgery. It was a wake-up call. With her recovery, they invested in their first small machine — a dryer for roasting chillies. It was modest, but it marked a turning point. For the first time, the work became a little easier, and the dream they carried in their hearts for so long began to grow stronger, now with a team of empowered women standing alongside them.

A Place of Their Own (2000s)

A Home for Iyengars

Even as their business slowly began to grow, life was not easy. Neighbors complained about the spice smoke, and rents kept rising. Undeterred, Padmavati and Dwarakanath took a bold step — they secured a loan and bought a small plot in the Peenya Industrial Area. There, they built a modest shed, with just basic utensils and their small dryer, and continued working with renewed hope The name was no accident — from the very beginning, everything was made just like at home. The products carried the care and love of home cooking, the utensils were simple, and the methods were handcrafted, without any commercialization. Every spice, every masala was prepared with home-like care and attention, ensuring quality and authenticity above all. – hence the name Iyengars Home Products

After 10 long years of hard work, they invested in their first packing machine, marking a turning point in production and growth. Slowly but steadily, the company expanded, opening a branch in Hassan in 2006.

Throughout it all, they never forgot the people who made their dream possible. Every employee was treated like family, with free meals offered daily, creating a sense of care and belonging. Their bold spirit of innovation even extended to marketing — unique scratch card promotions on ₹5 Puliogare packets offered prizes like a Maruti van or a gold necklace, surprising and delighting customers, and showing that courage and creativity could open doors in every way.

A Man of Dharma

Dharma at the Core

Dwarakanath was a man guided by values and principles. A devoted RSS member, he strongly believed in Dharma and lived his life by helping others with honesty and care. He personally gave away lakhs of Geetha Bhaavdhaare books for free, sharing knowledge with anyone who wanted it. He also organized Bhagavadgeeta programs on DD Chandana, spreading spiritual teachings to many.

His love was not just for people, but also for animals. He cared for more than 20 dogs and ran a Goshala in Hassan, looking after cows with great compassion. Even as a young man, Dwarakanath was full of courage and adventure — he traveled across India on a bicycle during his college days, meeting people and learning from every experience. His dedication and good work were eventually recognized by several state governments, honoring his life of service, honesty, and care.

The Next Chapter (2019–Present)

The Legacy Continues (2019–Present)

In 2019, the family faced a heartbreaking loss — Dwarakanath passed away after battling cancer. His vision, values, and hard work had built a dream that touched many lives, and his absence was deeply felt.

In 2020, his son Srinivas took charge, determined to carry forward his parents’ legacy. With care and dedication, he modernized production, expanded branches, and upgraded facilities, while ensuring that the company never lost its heart.

Today, Iyengars Home Products stands strong, with over 100 employees, three branches, and a presence across the globe. And yet, despite all growth and success, the company remains grounded in tradition, simplicity, and the same home-made care that Padmavati and Dwarakanath started with.

" IHP Iyengars is not just a company " it is the dream of Padmavati and Dwarakanath, born out of struggle,
and unshakable faith. Even today, every pack carries their story of resilience, love, and tradition"
